Why I'll never buy regular cotton for my child again

As a mother, you want the best for your child. You pay attention to what they eat, what they breathe, and what they play with. But what they wear? Most parents don't think about that.

Neither did I. Until I consciously thought about it.

What's in regular cotton?

Cotton is one of the most sprayed crops in the world. The cultivation of conventional cotton uses pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers. These substances don't just disappear after washing. They remain in the fibers, directly against your child's skin.

A baby's skin is thinner and more sensitive than an adult's. It absorbs more and faster. What lies against their skin partially enters their body.

I realized this when I was pregnant with my fourth child. I wanted to make conscious choices. Not only about what I bought, but also about what I put around my children.

What is organic cotton?

Organic cotton is grown without pesticides, without artificial fertilizers, and without harmful chemicals. It is certified, which means it is controlled from seed to finished product.

The result? Softer fabric. Purer material. And clothes you can put on your child with peace of mind.

At ZAYNIS, we sell the ilailai collection, made entirely from organic cotton. From the wrap-over bodysuits to the dungarees and shirts. Kimono style, soft, and made for children who move all day long. No fuss when dressing, no irritation from itchy fabric.

Organic cotton is not the only choice

At ZAYNIS, we believe organic cotton is a great choice. But it's not the only natural fabric that makes a difference.

Take merino wool, another natural fabric we offer through the Lille Barn collection. Merino wool is naturally temperature-regulating, breathable, and soft on the skin. Perfect for the fluctuating temperatures of the Dutch climate. For babies and children who are sometimes warm and then cold again.

What do organic cotton and merino wool have in common? They are both pure, fair, and free from unnecessary chemicals. That's what ZAYNIS selects for.

What do you notice as a mother?

Honestly, I didn't expect to feel such a difference. But natural fabrics feel different. Softer, more supple, more natural. And my children move more freely in them, no itching, no irritation.

My youngest son Zayn wears the ilailai dungarees, shirt, and hat. When I see him playing outside, picking flowers, crawling through the grass, I see a child who feels free. That's what clothing should do.

Is it more expensive?

Yes. And that's fair.

Organic cotton and merino wool cost more because they are cultivated and made more carefully. But clothes made from natural fabrics also last longer, retain their shape better, and still feel soft after ten washes.

You pay well once. Instead of cheaply twice.

And if you're unsure what to choose for your child, we're happy to help. The ZAYNIS Wardrobe Advice is exactly for that moment.

My choice

I started ZAYNIS because, as a mother of four children, I was looking for clothing that was truly pure. I couldn't find it, so I started offering it myself.

Everything we sell is selected based on material, fit, and fairness. No compromise. For my own children. And for yours.
